Meet the Team
We leverage our extensive real estate experience to create value at every stage of the development process: acquisition, entitlement, design, construction, and sales/leasing. We use proven institutional processes for originations, asset management, accounting and reporting, to maximize the performance of our development property investments.
Brian is a native San Franciscan who is a highly experienced local business owner and real estate developer. His background includes over 35 years in the construction field including 26 years as a General Contractor in the San Francisco Bay Area. Brian has a strong construction background; before founding Brian Spiers Construction Inc. he spent nine years as a union carpenter. Brian has vast experience working on high-rise, mid-rise and wood frame construction developments. Mr. Spiers has purchased, entitled and built numerous projects in San Francisco, including custom single-family homes, restaurants, senior housing apartments and mixed-use condominium buildings.
Brian has been very successful in finding unique development opportunities for high-density, mixed-use, urban land infill projects in San Francisco. In addition he has tremendous experience and has been very successful gaining entitlements in San Francisco's challenging political environment. Brian has demonstrated a willingness to work with planners, neighborhood groups, and local politicians to build consensus while still achieving approvals for financially viable developments with bold architectural design.
In addition to his development company, Brian also owns the Lucky 13 bar on Market Street and the Bitter End Bar and Grill on Clement Street. Mr. Spiers also owns the ground floor commercial space at 280 Valencia Street where he built and is currently a partner in Another Monkey Thai restaurant, which won numerous architecture awards when the space first opened as Conduit Restaurant in early 2008.
Brian is a member of the Urban Land Institute and SPUR. Brian and his wife Debi have been active as volunteers with Saint Ignatius High School, Little Sisters of the Poor and Saint Anne's Home.
David Sterlace, PE
David has over 10 years of experience in the real estate, construction, and engineering industry. Mr. Sterlace has managed over $1 Billion in capital expenditures, and has represented owners, developers, contractors, subcontractors, and designers.
Prior to joining Brian Spiers Development David served as a consultant with Exponent, and has prepared and evaluated claims for owners, contractors, subcontractors, and designers. He has presented his findings during negotiations and has participated in various alternative dispute resolution forums.
David also served as the Assistant Director of the construction firm, Q Builders, based in Palo Alto, where he had active roles in business development and overseeing the Operations Division, and at Roebbelen Contracting Inc. as a Project Manager. His industry experience spans multiple sectors including Healthcare, Hi-Tech, Higher Education, Public Works, K-12, Low Income Housing, Commercial, Residential, and Heavy Civil. He approaches every aspect of the project life cycle, from conceptual stage thru occupation, with the same professional approach that has made him a success in this industry. He is actively involved in trade organizations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Urban Land Institute Young Leader Group, and the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties.
In addition to his industry experience, David has pursued higher education and has attained his professional engineering license. Upon finishing his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and then working for a little over a year on the heavy civil side, David enrolled at the University of Southern California to pursue a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering. He completed the two year program in one year while working full time. Shortly after moving back to Northern California, David turned his attentions to gaining his professional engineering license, which he acquired in early 2008. Most recently, David completed his MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, in May of 2011.
